HOW TO ACT CONSISTENTLY IN YOUR BUSINESS

Jan 12, 2021

A is for Act Consistently

I know the cost all too well of sitting on the sidelines of my life, and I don’t want you to pay that cost. Some decisions will be better than others, but in the end, we are built by actions taken, not by time spent on the sidelines.

It’s time to get off the sidelines and realize your dream! Your time is now. I’ve coached hundreds of business people, and I know the struggle to be consistent is real. But I can tell you, just by looking at their financials, who’s taking consistent action and who’s not.

Today, I will talk about the A in The DAMN Plan: A is for Act Consistently. Consistency is the key to success, and one of my best tips for new entrepreneurs. Today, I will share three criteria every action plan must meet in order to get results and create consistency in business. The most important one is last, so be sure you keep reading!

Criteria #1: Your actions must align with your goals.

Setting goals is non-negotiable. Successful business people are goal-setters. In order to be attainable, business goals must be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-sensitive.

My personal goal for this year: I will be credit card debt-free by the end of the year.
This is harder to do than it is to say.
But when you set SMART goals for business, you will have massive results.

Specific: The clearer your intended goal, the more likely you are to stick to it. In my example, I state my exact goal – that I will be free of credit card debt by the end of 2020.

Measurable: Make it easy to know when you’ve reached your goal – and the progress you’ve made along the way. I will know I have reached my goal of being debt-free when my credit card balances total $0.

Attainable: The goal needs to be doable. This is where a DAMN Plan comes into play – you need to sketch this out to determine whether you can actually achieve your goal. You don’t want to set goals you don’t have a plan for. In order to kick my credit card debt, I’ll use the snowball method to pay off debt developed by Dave Ramsey.

Realistic: Accomplishing the goal needs to be possible. After creating a plan and looking at what it will take to accomplish it, you have to decide whether you’re truly willing to do what it takes to accomplish the goal. Attaining my goal of becoming credit card debt-free this year might mean that I eat keto-friendly beans and weenies for a while, but I’m willing to do it, and it will be DAMN-well worth it!

Time-sensitive: The goal needs to have a deadline. When we set a goal without a timeline, we’re never held accountable. My deadline for becoming debt-free is Dec. 31, 2021.

I have my SMART goal set, and you can do it, too!

Criteria #2: Your actions must produce results, they must be measurable, and you must track them.

If your business goal is to up your sales game, you might measure your results based on the number of new clients you pick up or the number of closed sales. Choose a way to measure your results, and then track them. The best way I know to stay motivated and make consistent action a habit is to measure your results. When we see good things happen, we will continue to do more of what made that good thing happen. As I see my credit card debt come down, I’ll continue to stay motivated to get that good feeling, and I’ll be celebrating along the way. Keep your tracking tools front-and-center so you can keep tabs on your results and find the motivation you need to stick with your plan.

Criteria #3: You must take action regardless of the circumstances – NO EXCUSES.

We all have our good days, and we all have our bad days. Things happen that are outside our control. Regardless, you must take action, doing the best you can on any one given day. Always do your best.

The one thing that I know is that action cures fear. It will get you over the hump of those bad days. And a daily action plan will get you over the hump of those excuses you might have been making. Just do the next thing that you plan that is focused on your goals and is intended to get you results. Do it.

Without action, you will be sitting on the sidelines of your life, and I don’t want you to pay that price. I want you to be in the game all the way, giving it your best.

I also believe in the power of speaking an action plan for goal setting out into the universe. It adds extra “oomph” to our planning when someone else knows, because we are less likely to let others down than we are to forget our commitment to ourselves. What are you willing to do? What actions are you going to take? What are your goals? I encourage you to speak this out to the universe. Give your plans extra power by sharing them to the comments here!
